Georgia mini-split cost guide

Much of Georgia is climate zone 2 (south) / 3-4. Electricity here runs 15.84 cents per kilowatt-hour, so a typical 12,000 BTU system costs about $472 a year to run. 2 rebate programs below can cut the installed price. Installed prices are mostly national — labor is the part that varies locally.

Typical Sizes And Installed Cost

Equipment, materials, electrical work and permits are priced the same everywhere. Only the labor line is adjusted to this state, which is why these ranges sit close to the national ones.

Georgia Home Energy Rebates HEAR Heat Pump for Space Heating or Cooling

Applications open

The official Georgia Home Energy Rebates site directs eligible participants to an approved-contractor and Neighborly-portal application process. A site banner notes that fuel-switching HEAR project submissions are due August 10, 2026, which is after the August 5, 2026 retrieval date, and no overall program closure is stated.

Mini-split coverage unclear

The GEFA source says heat pump for space heating or cooling, but does not explicitly name ductless or mini-split equipment.

Income-qualified program

HEAR rebates are income restricted to households below 150% of Area Median Income. Households below 80% of Area Median Income may receive up to 100% of total project cost, and households from 80% through 150% of Area Median Income may receive up to 50% of total project cost. Applicants must provide income documentation or categorical eligibility documentation.

Up to $8,000 for a heat pump for space heating or cooling, subject to the HEAR maximum rebate of $14,000 per household. Georgia's Home Energy Rebates site also describes total available incentives of up to $16,000 depending on income and expected energy savings.

Equipment
ENERGY STAR qualifying heat pump for space heating or cooling under Georgia's Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates pathway.
Efficiency
The Georgia HEAR measure table requires eligible ENERGY STAR products and a Qualified Electrification Project for the heat pump for space heating or cooling measure.
Install
Eligible participants must check eligibility, contact an approved contractor, complete the application, start the project, and provide proof of purchase, installation documentation, income documentation, and other program-required documents through the application process.

Georgia Power Home Energy Improvement Program - Conversion to Air Source Heat Pump

Applications open

Georgia Power's 2026 HEIP terms say the rebate program is valid from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2028, subject to program terms and the 60-day application deadline after invoice or receipt.

Mini-split coverage unclear

The Georgia Power source says air-source heat pump conversion, but does not explicitly name ductless or mini-split equipment.

Furnace conversion to air-source heat pump pays 50% of cost up to $1,500. Georgia Power also caps HEIP rebates at $2,500 per customer per year, and publishes related 2026 measures including HVAC maintenance or tune-up up to $75, air sealing up to $400, duct sealing up to $600, and a Home Comfort Bundle up to $1,850.

Equipment
Conversion of an electric furnace to an air-source heat pump at a residence with Georgia Power residential electric service.
Income
No income restriction is published for this Georgia Power HEIP single-family rebate; the customer must have Georgia Power residential service at the project residence.
Efficiency
The 2026 preconditions and requirements document requires qualifying equipment and materials and does not publish a separate SEER2, EER2, or HSPF2 tier for the air-source heat pump conversion row.
Install
Installation must be completed by a licensed HVAC installer. Applications must be submitted with the required paid-in-full invoice or receipt within 60 days of invoice or receipt date, and all measures must be installed at a residence with Georgia Power residential service.

Code Notes

  • Georgia's Uniform Codes Act makes the mandatory state construction codes applicable to all construction whether or not a local government chooses to enforce them. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs lists the International Mechanical Code, National Electrical Code, and International Energy Conservation Code among the mandatory codes, and says local governments adopt administrative procedures and choose which mandatory codes they locally enforce. The local authority having jurisdiction decides permit scope for a heat-pump project.
  • Georgia mechanical and electrical permit fees are local, not statewide. Atlanta provides a municipal data point where building permits are $7 per $1,000 of construction cost with a $150 minimum, mechanical permits have a $150 base fee with a $175 minimum, electrical permits have a $150 base fee with a $75 minimum, and a $25 technology fee is applied to each permit base fee. Atlanta also lists limited HVAC/mechanical exemptions for repair or replacement of existing equipment. Actual permit scope and fee are decided by the local authority having jurisdiction.
