Senville systems need a professional install, with flared lines and a vacuum, so they aren't a DIY alternative to MRCOOL. They're the value play for someone who already has an installer.

What to know about Senville

  • Start with ELITE. Premium-level efficiency with heating down to -22F is the best value Senville offers. If Senville is on your list, begin there and price down, not up.
  • Skip LETO if you have a real winter.
  • Rated to heat only down to +5F, it's an air conditioner with a heat pump attached.
  • That's fine in a hot climate, and the wrong buy anywhere cold.
  • The price gap to AURA isn't big enough to justify giving up that much heating.
  • LETO is Senville's only 115-volt option, at the small sizes. If you can't add a 240-volt circuit, that may decide it for you, but know what you're giving up in winter.
  • Trust the certified numbers over Senville's product pages. On several AURA models, Senville's marketing pages overstated heating efficiency compared with the unit's own certificate. Our model pages show the certified figures.
  • Buying direct means no local dealer. Warranty service goes through Senville, not a contractor down the road, and that's the real trade behind the price.

Senville sizes and capacities

For an average room, roughly:

  • 6,000 BTU - a small bedroom or office up to about 240 sq ft. AURA only.
  • 9,000 BTU - a bedroom or office up to about 350 sq ft. Every line comes in this size, so this is where the ELITE, AURA or LETO choice matters most.
  • 12,000 to 15,000 BTU - a large bedroom or living room up to about 475 to 600 sq ft.
  • 18,000 BTU - an open living area or insulated garage up to about 700 sq ft, and the smallest AURA Multizone.
  • 24,000 BTU - a large open area up to about 950 sq ft. The biggest ELITE.
  • 33,000 to 36,000 BTU - a whole floor or a shop up to about 1,350 to 1,450 sq ft. Only AURA (33k) and LETO (36k) come this big, so the largest Senvilles aren't the most efficient ones.

Senville multi-zone options

AURA Multizone runs three, four or five rooms from one outdoor unit and keeps heating down to -22F. It's also unusually efficient for a multi-zone system; most competitors' multi-room units rate noticeably lower.

Senville doesn't make a two-room outdoor unit, and that's fine. For two rooms, two single-zone systems are usually the better buy: they're cheaper and more efficient when only one room is running, and a breakdown only takes out one room.
