Error-code hub

LG error codes

LG shows a two-digit code on the indoor unit display, and the first digit indicates the subsystem - 1- codes are indoor, 2- codes are outdoor or compressor, 5- and 6- codes are communication. The 36 codes below cover the ARTCOOL, Mega, Standard Efficiency and Multi F ranges. LGRED cold-climate models use the same set.

Unit applicability

Match your unit before reading the table

This table is sourced for Mega R-32. If your unit is a different generation or product line not named here, the same display code may vary by generation.

Common codes first

Most broadly applicable documented codes

Ranking basis: we do not have failure-frequency telemetry. These are ordered by breadth of affected systems in the SplitAtlas catalog - the documented product line's published model count, whether the same code appears on more than one product line, and any manual applicability notes we hold. This is a breadth ranking, not a popularity claim.

CH 04

CH 04 means condensate water is not being removed the way the unit expects, or a full-water condition is being detected on models that use that display. If water is present at the indoor unit, treat it as a fault that can cause water damage.

AdvisoryTechnician
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Turn the unit off if water is visible. Check only the outside end of the drain for an obvious blockage or kink, then power cycle once at the breaker if you can do that safely. Do not open the indoor unit.
View the fix
CH 05

CH 05 means the indoor unit and outdoor unit are not exchanging the expected control signal. It often shows up right after installation or relocation if the connection is wrong, but LG also notes that normal-use faults can be temporary after unstable power.

AdvisoryTechnician
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Turn the system off, then power cycle once at the breaker or disconnect if you can do that safely. Do not open wiring covers or touch the communication cable.
View the fix
CH 07

CH 07 appears when connected LG indoor units are not set to compatible modes, such as one unit calling for heat while another calls for cooling or dry operation. The equipment is blocking operation because a shared system cannot heat and cool at the same time.

AdvisoryDIY
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Set every indoor unit on the same outdoor system to cooling, dry, or heating as a group. Fan-only and air-purification modes can be used without the same heat/cool conflict.
View the fix
CH 10

CH 10 means the indoor fan is being restrained or its fan motor is not operating properly. Without reliable indoor airflow, the unit cannot heat or cool safely.

AdvisoryTechnician
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Turn the system off. Look only for obvious external obstruction at the indoor outlet and remove nothing that requires opening the cabinet. If CH 10 returns, leave the system off.
View the fix
CH 21

CH 21 means the outdoor inverter power module or compressor drive has reported a fault. LG's support table points to compressor or inverter PCB failure, so this is not a homeowner repair.

AdvisoryTechnician
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Turn the system off and power cycle once at the breaker if you can do that safely. If CH 21 returns, do not keep resetting and do not open the outdoor unit.
View the fix
CH 22

CH 22 means the outdoor unit detected an overcurrent condition at the inverter compressor input. That is an electrical/compressor-protection fault, not something to troubleshoot inside the cabinet.

AdvisoryTechnician
Breadth evidence
6 published catalog models on its documented product line.
Safe first check
Turn the system off and power cycle once at the breaker if you can do that safely. If CH 22 returns or the breaker trips, stop using the system.

Safe first checks

Checks you can do without opening the unit

These codes have homeowner-safe steps such as filters, airflow, condensate/drain checks, remote/controller items, or a single safe power reset. If the code returns, stop at the boundary in the card.

CP

CP is a normal function display LG groups with Power Cooling. The unit is trying to cool faster than standard cooling, with fan speed and target temperature adjusted automatically.

Not an error
Sourced Jul 2026
Applies to
Mega R-32
Homeowner fix
Turn off Power Cooling, Jet Mode, or the equivalent turbo cooling setting if you want normal operation. Power Cooling only applies during cooling.
Status note
This is a normal function display, not a fault.

7

When the display or remote shows 7, LG says the wall-mounted air conditioner's wind angle is set to indirect wind mode. It should show briefly and then return to the previous display.

Not an error

Mega R-32
Homeowner fix
Adjust the Comfort AIR or vertical louver setting if you do not want indirect airflow. No service is needed if the display clears normally.
Status note
This is a normal function display, not a fault.

A1

LG's support article treats AI or A1 as the artificial-intelligence function display. In that mode, the unit automatically adjusts comfort settings, which can make temperature and airflow controls seem limited.

Not an error
Sourced Jul 2026
Applies to
Mega R-32
Homeowner fix
Switch from AI mode to normal cooling or heating mode if you want manual control of set temperature, fan, and airflow direction.
Status note
This is a normal mode display when it is AI/A1, not a fault.

CLEAN FILTER

Clean Filter is a maintenance reminder based on recorded operating hours, not a sensor proving the filter is dirty. LG says the message can appear independently of actual filter condition.

Not an error
Sourced Jul 2026
Applies to
Mega R-32
Homeowner fix
Check the indoor filter for dust, clean it according to the owner's manual, and reinstall it dry. Depending on your remote type, the message may clear automatically after more operation or may need the remote's filter-display release/reset steps.
Status note
Clean the filter soon; this is routine maintenance, not an emergency.
