Who should buy Haier: someone hiring an installer who needs deep-cold capability in a small room and has found the Arctic Series at a good price. Who should skip it: anyone needing capacity above 12,000 BTU or a multi-room system - we have no Haier data above that.

What to know about Haier

  • -31F at SEER2 27 is a rare combination. Most systems that reach this cold rating give up efficiency to do it. This one does not.
  • Haier and GE Appliances share hardware in this category. If you are cross-shopping, GE's Endure line covers the same deep-cold ground with a much broader capacity range (9,000-32,400 BTU), and our GE hub is the more useful page if you need anything larger than 12,000 BTU.
  • We hold no Haier multi-zone data. Haier's multi-zone offering carried a no-longer-manufactured notice when we researched it, with equivalent hardware sold under the GE badge, so we did not publish it rather than list systems you cannot buy.
  • Our Haier coverage is thin by our own standard, and we would rather say so than imply a complete picture.

Haier sizes and capacities

Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room.

  • 9,000 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft, at -31F. For a cold bedroom this is one of the strongest systems we certify.
  • 12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft, and the ceiling of our Haier coverage.

Above 12,000 BTU, look at GE Appliances Endure - same hardware family, same deep-cold capability, capacity to 32,400 BTU.
