Regional cost guide
Connecticut mini-split cost guide
Much of Connecticut is climate zone 5A. Electricity here runs 24.32 cents per kilowatt-hour, so a typical 12,000 BTU system costs about $725 a year to run. 2 rebate programs below can cut the installed price. Installed prices are mostly national — labor is the part that varies locally.

Typical Sizes And Installed Cost
Equipment, materials, electrical work and permits are priced the same everywhere. Only the labor line is adjusted to this state, which is why these ranges sit close to the national ones.

Incentives
UTILITY_REBATE
Energize Connecticut Energy Optimization Heat Pump Incentive
Applications open
The current program page provides online and mail application routes and optional pre-verification.
Covers mini-splits
The program uses Energize Connecticut's air-source heat-pump qualified-product rules, whose official materials explicitly identify ductless systems.
Income-qualified program
None for the tier effective September 1, 2026. An earlier enhanced 2026 tier used an income condition, but the current page states that all qualifying customers receive the same incentive amount.
$1,500 per ton up to $10,000 for qualifying projects installed on or after September 1, 2026.
- Equipment
- Qualifying air-source heat pump that replaces, displaces, or integrates with natural gas, oil, propane, or electric-resistance primary heat for an active Eversource or United Illuminating residential electric customer in the applicable service territory.
- Efficiency
- Equipment must appear on the current qualifying-products list, including its applicable cold-weather performance criteria.
- Install
- Installation must be completed by a Connecticut Heat Pump Installer Network contractor. Integrated controls are required when the existing system remains for supplemental heat. Submit the current application after installation; optional pre-verification is available.

Energize Connecticut Residential Air Source Heat Pump Incentive
Applications open
The current Energize Connecticut page provides online and mail claim paths for qualifying 2026 installations.
Covers mini-splits
Energize Connecticut's official air-source overview explicitly includes ductless mini-splits, and the program qualified-product criteria identify ductless single- and multi-head systems.
$250 per ton, up to a $2,500 maximum combined air-source heat-pump incentive.
- Equipment
- Qualifying air-source heat pump for an active Eversource or United Illuminating residential electric customer in the applicable service territory. Eligible project types include existing heat-pump replacement, newly conditioned space, heating without integrated controls, and cooling-only installation under current program rules.
- Income
- None published for this standard incentive.
- Efficiency
- Equipment must appear on the current qualifying-products list. Published 2026 ductless single- and multi-head criteria include at least 15.2 SEER2, 8.5 HSPF2, 70% heating capacity at 5 degrees F, and COP 1.75 at 5 degrees F.
- Install
- Installation must be completed by a contractor in the Connecticut Heat Pump Installer Network, with the program's qualifying-product and application documentation submitted online or by mail.
Federal credit timing and state-program caveats are covered in the mini-split rebates and tax credits guide.
Code Notes
- Stamford's current building-fee page assesses residential electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work at $13 per $1,000 of construction value with a $60 minimum, plus a state education fund fee of $0.26 per $1,000. Submitted project cost is a minimum and may be adjusted by the plan examiner. This is a Stamford planning data point, not a statewide fee; the local building official must confirm which permits apply and the current total.
