STATE_REBATE
Indiana Energy Saver Home Appliance Rebate (HEAR)
Applications open
The Indiana Office of Energy Development says applications are “NOW OPEN” through the single Indiana Energy Saver application. No closing date is published.
Mini-split coverage unclear
The state says heat pump for space heating and cooling but does not expressly say ductless or mini-split.
Income-qualified program
Household income must be below 150% of area median income. Below 80% AMI, the rebate covers 100% of qualified cost up to the caps; from 80% to below 150% AMI, it covers 50%.
Up to $8,000 for an ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump for space heating and cooling, within the $14,000 household maximum and the applicable 100% or 50% qualified-project-cost limit.
- Equipment
- First-time eligible electrification upgrades for low- and moderate-income households, including an ENERGY STAR-certified heat pump for space heating and cooling. HEAR cannot replace existing electric equipment.
- Efficiency
- The space-heating and cooling heat pump must be ENERGY STAR certified and satisfy Indiana Energy Saver measure requirements.
- Install
- Apply through Indiana Energy Saver and use a qualified contractor. The rebate is delivered as a discount on the eligible product and installation; replacement of existing electric equipment is not permitted.
STATE_REBATE
Indiana Energy Saver Home Efficiency Rebate (HOMES)
Applications open
The Indiana Office of Energy Development says applications are “NOW OPEN” through the single Indiana Energy Saver application. No closing date is published.
Mini-split coverage unclear
The state says ENERGY STAR HVAC systems and heat pumps but the controlling program pages do not expressly say ductless or mini-split.
Income-qualified program
Open to all Indiana households. Enhanced single-family amounts apply below 80% of area median income. Multifamily enhanced amounts apply when more than half of occupied units are below 80% AMI.
Single-family below 80% AMI: lesser of 100% of project cost or $12,000 at 20-34% modeled savings and $18,000 at 35% or more. Single-family at or above 80% AMI: lesser of 50% or $2,000 at 20-34% and $4,000 at 35% or more. Published multifamily tiers reach $16,000 per low-income dwelling unit at 35% or more savings.
- Equipment
- Single- or multifamily whole-home retrofit achieving at least 20% modeled energy savings. Eligible work may include ENERGY STAR HVAC systems and water heaters, insulation, and air sealing.
- Efficiency
- The project must achieve at least 20% predicted energy savings as modeled through the program energy audit; installed equipment must satisfy the program's applicable ENERGY STAR and measure rules.
- Install
- Apply through Indiana Energy Saver and complete the approved scope through a qualified contractor. The rebate is delivered as an upfront discount on the eligible project and installation.
UTILITY_REBATE
NIPSCO Residential Heat Pump Rebates
Applications open
Current rebates cover equipment purchased and installed from January 1 through November 30, 2026, subject to limited first-come, first-served funds and the published submission deadlines.
Covers mini-splits
The utility expressly names a ductless mini-split heat-pump tier.
$60 for a qualifying ductless mini-split. Air-source heat pump: $800 at 15.2-16.1 SEER2, $900 at 16.2-17.0 SEER2, or $1,000 at 17.1+ SEER2.
- Equipment
- Qualifying new ductless mini-split or air-source heat pump for an active NIPSCO residential electric customer replacing existing equipment.
- Income
- None published for the standard equipment rebates.
- Efficiency
- Ductless mini-split requires at least 17.1 SEER2 and 8.6 HSPF2. Air-source heat-pump amounts use the published 15.2-16.1, 16.2-17.0, and 17.1+ SEER2 tiers; the model must appear on the applicable qualified-product list.
- Install
- Submit the completed application, invoice, and AHRI certificate within 60 days of installation. Ductless units are limited to two rebates per installation address per year. A dual-fuel customer may claim either the air-source heat-pump rebate or the associated gas furnace/boiler rebate, not both.
Federal credit timing and state-program caveats are covered in the mini-split rebates and tax credits guide.
Code Notes
- Speedway's current construction fee schedule lists a miscellaneous coil, condenser, heat pump, or solar panel at $65 per unit; a combined heating and cooling system is $10 per $1,000 of job cost with a $100 minimum. Replacement ductwork is $35 in addition to a heating or cooling permit. The town must determine which category and other permits apply. This is a Speedway planning data point, not a statewide Indiana fee; the local authority must confirm the required permits and current total.
