Regional cost guide
Missouri mini-split cost guide
Much of Missouri is climate zone 4 (south) / 5 (north). Electricity here runs 13.68 cents per kilowatt-hour, so a typical 12,000 BTU system costs about $408 a year to run. One rebate program below can cut the installed price. Installed prices are mostly national — labor is the part that varies locally.

Typical Sizes And Installed Cost
Equipment, materials, electrical work and permits are priced the same everywhere. Only the labor line is adjusted to this state, which is why these ranges sit close to the national ones.

Ameren Missouri FastTrack HVAC PAYS Mini-Split Rebate
Applications open
Ameren Missouri's 2026 HVAC PAYS incentive sheet says rebates are valid between January 1 and December 31, 2026.
Covers mini-splits
The Ameren Missouri HVAC PAYS incentive sheet labels ductless mini-split heat pump and ductless mini-split AC scenarios and lists a Mini-Split Air Conditioner or Heat Pump rebate row.
$500 per ton for a mini-split air conditioner or heat pump, valid January 1 through December 31, 2026.
- Equipment
- Mini-split air conditioner or heat pump with 19+ SEER2 for qualifying Ameren Missouri electric customers participating in the HVAC PAYS pathway.
- Income
- No income restriction is published for the FastTrack HVAC PAYS mini-split rebate; the customer must participate in the applicable PAYS tier and qualify through the program cost-effectiveness process.
- Efficiency
- Mini-split air conditioner or heat pump must be 19+ SEER2.
- Install
- Ameren Missouri electric customer; HVAC or weatherization rebates require participation in tier 4 of the PAYS program. Mini-split systems can be installed in spaces that have been conditioned for at least 12 months without removing existing equipment.
Federal credit timing and state-program caveats are covered in the mini-split rebates and tax credits guide.
Code Notes
- Missouri building and trade-code enforcement is local. RSMo 64.170 allows first- and second-class county commissions to adopt building regulations, issue building permits, license electrical installers, inspect electrical work, and establish permit, license, and inspection fee schedules. Municipalities such as St. Louis separately publish mechanical-code and permit processes.
- St. Louis provides a municipal permit-cost data point: its mechanical permit fee schedule says fees are established by City Ordinance 70800 and lists residential R1/R2/R3 furnaces, condensing units, and furnace/condensing-unit combinations at $40 each. Actual permit scope and fees are decided by the local authority having jurisdiction.
