Regional cost guide
New Hampshire mini-split cost guide
Much of New Hampshire is climate zone 5 / 6. Electricity here runs 27.33 cents per kilowatt-hour, so a typical 12,000 BTU system costs about $814 a year to run. One rebate program below can cut the installed price. Installed prices are mostly national — labor is the part that varies locally.

Typical Sizes And Installed Cost
Equipment, materials, electrical work and permits are priced the same everywhere. Only the labor line is adjusted to this state, which is why these ranges sit close to the national ones.

NHSaves Residential Electric Heating and Cooling Equipment Rebates
Applications open
NHSaves publishes 2026 residential heat-pump rebate tables with online and mail-in forms and says rebates are available while funding is available.
Covers mini-splits
NHSaves tables explicitly include ductless air-source heat pump rows for the standard rebate and enhanced electric-resistance replacement rebate.
Eversource, Liberty, and Unitil standard air-source heat pump rebate is $250 per ton for ducted or ductless equipment; enhanced electric-resistance replacement rebate is $1,250 per ton for January 1-March 22, 2026 installations and $2,000 per ton for March 23-December 31, 2026 installations. New Hampshire Electric Cooperative standard ducted or ductless air-source heat pump rebate is $250 per ton and electric-resistance replacement is $2,000 per ton.
- Equipment
- High-efficiency air-source heat pumps, including ducted and ductless systems, for residential electric customers of Eversource, Liberty, Unitil, or New Hampshire Electric Cooperative.
- Income
- The standard heat-pump rebate has no income restriction published. Enhanced electric-resistance replacement rebates require pre-verification based on existing electric resistance heat, not an income tier.
- Efficiency
- Eversource, Liberty, and Unitil equipment must be listed on the NHSaves Heat Pump Qualified Product List. New Hampshire Electric Cooperative ductless equipment must meet at least 16.0 SEER2, 9.0 EER2, 9.5 HSPF2, and COP at 5 F of 1.75.
- Install
- Residential electric customer of a participating New Hampshire utility; installed in the service territory; installed in 2026; rebate forms and documents due through the applicable utility process; rebates are available while funding is available.
Federal credit timing and state-program caveats are covered in the mini-split rebates and tax credits guide.
Code Notes
- New Hampshire has a state building code under RSA 155-A, and RSA 155-A:4 requires a permit before new construction or renovation in jurisdictions with a local enforcement mechanism. The local authority having jurisdiction decides permit scope for a heat-pump project.
- Newmarket provides a municipal permit-cost data point: residential building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permit applications have a $50 base fee plus $8 per $1,000 of fair market value of work. Actual permit scope and fees are decided by the local authority having jurisdiction.
