South Dakota mini-split cost guide
Much of South Dakota is climate zone 5A / 6A. Electricity here runs 15.36 cents per kilowatt-hour, so a typical 12,000 BTU system costs about $458 a year to run. 5 rebate programs below can cut the installed price. Installed prices are mostly national — labor is the part that varies locally.

- Install
- Submit the current rebate request with invoice, make/model, existing and backup heat, and project details. Sioux Valley installs or inspects the required submeter/load-management equipment. Rebates cannot exceed project cost and are limited to once per ten years per account/structure.
Federal credit timing and state-program caveats are covered in the mini-split rebates and tax credits guide.
Code Notes
- Sioux Falls' current 2026 mechanical, electrical, or plumbing schedule starts at $40 for the first $5,000 of MEP valuation, then adds $6 for each additional $1,000 or fraction through $25,000. Higher valuation bands use the published stepped schedule. The city says projects may require permits and plan review, and the authority must determine the applicable permit. This is a Sioux Falls planning example, not a statewide South Dakota fee.
