Code Notes
- Vermont residential construction must comply with Residential Building Energy Standards under 30 V.S.A. section 51, which applies to residential construction including additions, alterations, renovations, and repairs. Permit scope remains local for a ductless heat-pump project.
- Burlington provides a municipal permit-cost data point: building permit application fees are based on estimated construction cost at $8.50 per $1,000 with a $30 minimum, work may not begin without an active issued permit, and Burlington says mechanical inspections are required for all HVAC permits. Actual permit scope and fees are decided by the local authority having jurisdiction.
