Friedrich mini splits

Friedrich is a long-established US brand with the cleanest three-tier structure we track, all under the Floating Air name and all professionally installed. The 19 systems sort as:

  • Floating Air Pro X - SEER2 19.5-23, rated -22F on some systems and -13F on others, and the only line reaching 42,000 BTU. - Floating Air Pro - SEER2 21-25, rated -13F, 9,000-24,000 BTU, with 115V options. - Floating Air Select - SEER2 18-21, rated -5F, the entry tier.

Who should buy Friedrich: someone hiring an installer who wants a US-established brand with strong service support and a simple range. Who should skip it: anyone chasing the efficiency ceiling - Friedrich tops out at SEER2 25 where several competitors reach 30+.

What to know about Friedrich

  • Pro is more efficient than Pro X, and Pro X is more capable. Pro certifies up to SEER2 25 against Pro X's 23 - but Pro X is the line that reaches -22F and 42,000 BTU. The X is buying capability and capacity, not efficiency, which is the reverse of how most brands' top tiers work.
  • Check the specific Pro X system's cold rating. The line spans -22F and -13F depending on the system, so the tier name alone does not tell you.
  • Select at -5F is the entry tier. Fine for a cooling-led job in a mild climate; not a heating system.
  • Friedrich's efficiency ceiling is genuinely lower than the value brands' flagships. You are buying US brand support and a simple range, and paying for it in SEER2.

Friedrich sizes and capacities

Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room. Run the calculator for a real answer.

  • 9,000 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft, offered in all three tiers.
  • 12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft.
  • 18,000 BTU - open-plan space to roughly 700 sq ft.
  • 24,000 BTU - large open areas to roughly 950 sq ft, and the top of the Pro range.
  • 34,600-42,000 BTU - whole-floor or light-commercial use to roughly 1,400-1,700 sq ft, in Select and Pro X. Pro X is the only way to get this capacity with a real cold rating.

Friedrich multi-zone options

Friedrich's ductless catalog on this site is single-zone only. If you are planning a multi-room Friedrich job, our model pages will size and specify the individual systems, but we cannot yet compare Friedrich multi-zone condensers against the alternatives - and we would rather say so than imply coverage we do not have.
