Fujitsu's AIRSTAGE range is engineering-led, pro-installed, and unusually easy to shop once you understand that the series name tells you the climate it is built for. We track 24 Fujitsu systems, all of them on current-generation R-32 - there is no legacy-refrigerant risk anywhere in the Fujitsu catalog, which is not true of every premium brand.

The catalog splits cleanly in two. The Altair series (300, 500, 700) runs SEER2 17 to 30 but every Altair line is rated only to +5F. The Orion flagships are the cold-climate answer: Orion XLTH at SEER2 24 to 33.1 rated to -15F, and Orion XLTH+ at SEER2 28.7 to 33.5 rated to -22F. The two H-series systems (35,200 and 43,000 BTU) cover light-commercial capacity.

Who should buy Fujitsu: someone hiring a contractor who wants Mitsubishi-tier engineering and documentation, and who is buying Orion for a cold climate. Who should skip it: DIY installers, and anyone whose decision is price-led - Fujitsu's value is engineering, not the lowest number. What to know about Fujitsu

  • Efficiency and cold-weather capability are separate axes here, and Altair proves it. The Altair 700 certifies SEER2 27.5 to 30 - genuinely excellent - and is still rated only to +5F. A buyer who assumes the most efficient Altair must also be the most capable in winter will buy the wrong system. If you need heat below freezing, the series decision is Orion, at any budget.
  • Orion XLTH+ is the deep-cold pick: SEER2 up to 33.5 with rated heating to -22F, but only offered from 9,000 to 14,500 BTU. If you need -22F capability in a larger room, Fujitsu cannot do it in one system.
  • Orion XLTH covers 9,000 to 22,000 BTU at -15F, which is enough for most US cold climates and the more practical choice for a larger space.
  • The whole catalog is R-32. Where competitors are still clearing R-410A stock, Fujitsu has completed the transition - one less thing to check.
  • Professional install, dealer-distributed. Budget the contractor bill as part of the system price.

Fujitsu sizes and capacities

Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room. Run the calculator for a real answer.

  • 9,000 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft. Offered in every line, so this is where the Altair-vs-Orion decision matters most.
  • 12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft, and the top of the Altair 700 range.
  • 14,500 BTU - to roughly 580 sq ft. The largest Orion XLTH+, so this is the ceiling for -22F capability.
  • 18,000-22,000 BTU - open-plan space to roughly 700-880 sq ft. Orion XLTH reaches 22,000, which is the largest genuinely cold-capable Fujitsu single-zone system.
  • 33,000 BTU - whole-floor use to roughly 1,300 sq ft, Altair 500 only, and therefore +5F.
  • 35,200-43,000 BTU - light-commercial H-series, to roughly 1,400-1,700 sq ft.

Note the pattern: the largest Fujitsu systems are not the cold-capable ones. Above 22,000 BTU every option is rated to +5F or is H-series. A large, cold room is the one job Fujitsu's single-zone lineup does not cleanly solve.

Fujitsu multi-zone options

Fujitsu's multi-zone offering is barely represented in our catalog - almost all of the 65 systems we publish are single-zone or light-commercial, with only a pair of AIRSTAGE H-series condensers (one 4-zone, one 5-zone) covering multi-room work. If you are planning a multi-room Fujitsu job, the model pages here will size and specify the individual systems, but we cannot yet compare Fujitsu multi-zone condensers against the alternatives, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
