GREE error codes

GREE shows faults as an alphanumeric code on the indoor display, and the same set runs across Livo, Vireo, Envo, Sapphire and Zeno. The 52 codes below come from GREE service manuals. Because GREE manufactures for several other badges, these codes also appear - sometimes verbatim - on Cosmo and TOSOT systems, which have their own pages here.

C4 means the outdoor control board is not reading its configuration jumper correctly. That jumper identifies unit configuration to the control board, so the outdoor unit may lock out until it is corrected. Manual trigger: C4 means the outdoor unit jumper cap is missing or not being read.

C5 means a small configuration jumper that tells the indoor control board what unit it is serving is missing, loose, damaged, or not being read. For a homeowner, this usually appears after installation or service and is not a setting to adjust from the remote. Manual trigger: C5 means the indoor unit reports a jumper-cap fault.

E1 means refrigerant pressure rose higher than the controls allow. The most homeowner-relevant cause is poor outdoor airflow, but overcharge, restrictions, fan faults, and pressure-switch issues also belong on the technician list. Manual trigger: E1 means the system has gone into high-pressure protection.

Checks you can do without opening the unit

These codes have homeowner-safe steps such as filters, airflow, condensate/drain checks, remote/controller items, or a single safe power reset. If the code returns, stop at the boundary in the card.

E8DIY part

Clean the washable filters. If a filter is damaged or packed with debris that will not rinse out, replace it with the exact filter for your indoor model, then reset once. Expected result: airflow improves and E8 clears; if it returns, stop there.

Status displays

CL

CL means the indoor unit is running its Auto Clean drying cycle. It is trying to dry the indoor coil after operation, not reporting a fault.
