Midea is one of the largest air-conditioner manufacturers on earth and the OEM behind several brands we track separately, including ACiQ. Its own badged catalog here is 44 systems across eight lines, all current-generation R-454B, all professionally installed.
The performance is genuinely strong - Elevate Max certifies SEER2 up to 33.1 with rated heating to -22F, which is premium-tier by any measure - and most of the catalog holds -22F. The problem is the naming. Midea runs Easy Pro and Easy Pro Extreme Heat, Elevate, Elevate High Heat and Elevate Max, plus Essence and two Advantage Series multi-zone families. Those names do not sort themselves, and one of them is a trap.
Who should buy Midea: a buyer hiring an installer who wants premium-tier efficiency and deep-cold capability without a premium badge, and who buys any Elevate or Easy Pro line. Who should skip it: anyone who wants dealer-network support, and anyone who lands on Essence assuming it behaves like the rest of the catalog.

What to know about Midea
- Essence is the outlier and the one to avoid for heating. It is the only Midea line rated to +5F; every other single-zone line holds -22F or -13F. It also certifies the lowest efficiency in the catalog (SEER2 18.5-22.4). If you are heating with it, buy almost anything else Midea makes.
- Elevate Max is the flagship - SEER2 24.5-33.1 at -22F, though only from 6,000 to 18,000 BTU. For a small-to-medium room in a cold climate it is one of the strongest systems we certify at any price.
- "High Heat" and "Extreme Heat" both mean -22F, and so does plain Elevate. The naming implies a ladder that the certified ratings do not support - Elevate, Elevate High Heat, Elevate Max and Easy Pro Extreme Heat all reach -22F. Compare on efficiency and capacity, not on which name sounds warmest.
- Easy Pro is the exception to that: plain Easy Pro is rated to -13F, while Easy Pro Extreme Heat reaches -22F. Here the extra words do mean something.

- 115V is available in Essence and Elevate at small capacities.
Midea sizes and capacities
Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room. Run the calculator for a real answer.
- 6,000 BTU - small bedroom or office to roughly 240 sq ft, in Elevate Max, Elevate High Heat and Easy Pro Extreme Heat. Midea covers the small end better than most.
- 9,000 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft, offered in every line, so this is where the line choice matters most.
- 12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft.
- 18,000 BTU - open-plan space to roughly 700 sq ft. Top of the Elevate Max range, and the entry point for multi-zone.
- 24,000 BTU - large open areas to roughly 950 sq ft.
- 33,000-36,000 BTU - whole-floor use to roughly 1,320-1,440 sq ft, in Essence, Elevate and the High Heat lines. Note Essence reaches 36,000 at +5F, so the largest cheap Midea is also the least capable.
Midea multi-zone options
Midea runs two multi-zone families under the Advantage Series name, and they split the same way the single-zone lines do:
Advantage Series Multi-Zone (18,000-36,000 BTU, SEER2 24-25.2) - rated to -13F. The efficiency leader, and strong for multi-zone where part-load penalties usually pull ratings down.
Advantage Series Multi-Zone High-Heat (19,000-36,000 BTU, SEER2 23.1-25) - rated to -22F, for about a point of SEER2.
Unlike most brands, both Midea multi-zone families are genuinely cold-capable - the choice is -13F versus -22F, not cold versus not. That is a better starting position than most competitors offer.
For two rooms, price two single-zone systems first - single-zone avoids the part-load penalty and a failure only takes out one room.
