Della is a DIY-marketed value brand with one of the larger catalogs we track - 71 systems across 15 lines, most of them DIY-marketed - and by some distance the hardest naming to navigate. Two decodings make it manageable.

First: "CloudAir" is a connectivity feature, not a performance tier. Optima and Optima CloudAir certify identically (SEER2 23-24, -13F). Serena and Serena CloudAir certify identically (SEER2 22, +5F). You are buying app control, not capability.

Second: "Pro" is the one word that signals real performance. Optima Pro and Optima Pro CloudAir reach SEER2 22.5-25 with rated heating to -22F, the only single-zone Della lines that do. Everything else tops out at -13F or worse, and the volume lines - Econo, Umbra, Motto, Serena - are rated to +5F.

Who should buy Della: a DIY-capable buyer who wants the widest choice of capacity and finish at value pricing, and who buys an Optima line. Who should skip it: anyone heating below freezing on an Econo, Umbra, Motto or Serena, and anyone who wants a short product list.

Della sells current ductless systems direct online and markets them to value/DIY shoppers, but multi-zone systems use conventional mini-split electrical, refrigerant-line, evacuation, and commissioning work.

What to know about Della

  • Optima Pro CloudAir Multi-Zone is the best system Della makes - SEER2 25-27 at -22F is strong by any standard, not just for a value brand.
  • Econo is the floor at SEER2 17 and +5F. It reaches 35,000 BTU, so the largest Della systems are also the least efficient and least capable in cold. If you need that capacity for heating, this is the wrong line.
  • Four separate lines are +5F - Econo, Umbra, Motto and both Serena variants. That is roughly half the single-zone catalog. Read the rating, not the name.
  • Umbra's published low-ambient data is inconsistent across the line (some systems 5F, some 19F). Check the individual model page rather than assuming the line carries one number.
  • Della is DIY-marketed across the board, but these are not pre-charged quick-connect kits in the MRCOOL sense - confirm what the specific system requires before assuming no refrigerant work.
  • 115V is widely available across Umbra, Vario, Optima, Serena, Motto and Econo at the small capacities, which is unusually broad.

Della sizes and capacities

Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room. Run the calculator for a real answer.

  • 9,000-9,100 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft, offered in nearly every line, so this is where the line choice matters most.
  • 11,500-12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft.
  • 18,000 BTU - open-plan space to roughly 700 sq ft, and the entry point for multi-zone.
  • 23,000-24,000 BTU - large open areas to roughly 920 sq ft. Top of the Optima Pro range, so this is the ceiling for -22F single-zone Della.
  • 35,000-36,000 BTU - whole-floor use to roughly 1,400 sq ft, in Econo and Vario only - the two least efficient single-zone lines.

Della multi-zone options

Della runs four multi-zone families:

Optima Pro CloudAir Multi-Zone (20,000-36,000 BTU, SEER2 25-27) - rated to -22F. The best multi-zone Della makes and the one to buy for heat.

Vita Series Multi-Zone (18,000-42,000 BTU, SEER2 22-25) and Optima Series Multi-Zone (18,000-42,000 BTU, SEER2 22-24) - both -13F, both reaching higher capacity than the Pro line.

Serena Series Multi-Zone - a single 17,700 BTU condenser at SEER2 22, -13F.

So the trade is explicit: -22F caps at 36,000 BTU, while 42,000 BTU means accepting -13F. For two rooms, price two single-zone systems first - single-zone avoids the part-load penalty and a failure only takes out one room.
