GE Appliances brings a household name to ductless, and its 25 systems sort into three clearly-separated single-zone tiers plus two multi-zone families. All are professionally installed.

Endure is the cold-climate line and the reason to look at GE at all - SEER2 20-27 with rated heating to -31F on some systems, among the deepest cold ratings anywhere in our catalog. Altitude sits in the middle at SEER2 18-23 and -15F. Caliber is the entry tier at SEER2 18-23 and -4F, and the only line offering 115V.

Who should buy GE Appliances: someone hiring an installer who wants a recognised US brand with genuine deep-cold capability, buying Endure. Who should skip it: anyone buying Caliber for winter heating, and anyone who assumes the Altitude name carries the same rating in multi-zone as it does single-zone.

What to know about GE Appliances

  • Endure is the line worth having. A -31F rating puts it in the small group of systems we certify that will hold output through a genuine deep freeze, and SEER2 up to 27 means you are not paying for that in running cost.
  • "Altitude" does not mean the same thing in single-zone and multi-zone. Altitude single-zone is rated to -15F; Altitude Multi is rated to -4F. Eleven degrees apart under one name. If you are specifying a multi-zone GE for a cold climate, you want Endure Multi (-22F), not Altitude Multi.
  • Caliber is the entry tier at -4F, and the only GE line with 115V options. Reasonable for a mild climate or a cooling-led job; the wrong buy if you are heating with it.
  • Note that GE and Haier share hardware in this category - if you are cross-shopping, you may be looking at the same equipment under two badges.

GE Appliances sizes and capacities

Room sizes use the same 25 BTU per square foot baseline as our sizing calculator, for an average-insulation room. Run the calculator for a real answer.

  • 9,000 BTU - bedroom or office to roughly 350 sq ft, offered in all three single-zone tiers, so this is where the tier choice matters most.
  • 12,000 BTU - large bedroom or living room to roughly 475 sq ft.
  • 18,000 BTU - open-plan space to roughly 700 sq ft, and the entry point for both multi-zone families.
  • 24,000 BTU - large open areas to roughly 950 sq ft. Top of the Caliber range.
  • 32,400 BTU - whole-floor use to roughly 1,300 sq ft, in Altitude and Endure. Endure holds its rating at this capacity, which is unusual.

GE Appliances multi-zone options

Two multi-zone families, and the naming is the trap:

Endure Multi (18,000-36,000 BTU, SEER2 20.5-23) - rated to -22F. The cold-climate multi-zone answer.

Altitude Multi (18,000-35,000 BTU, SEER2 20-24) - rated to -4F, despite Altitude single-zone being -15F.

Higher efficiency on paper belongs to Altitude Multi; the ability to heat in winter belongs to Endure Multi. For a heating job that is not a close call.

For two rooms, price two single-zone systems first - single-zone avoids the part-load penalty and a failure only takes out one room.
