The MXZ-5D42NL is the largest of the older MXZ-D five-zone units at 40,500 BTU nominal, and it is the honest budget end of Mitsubishi's multi-zone range: its certified EER2 of 9.3 and HSPF2 of 9.1 are the lowest of any MXZ multi-zone we list, and it is not ENERGY STAR certified. It still delivers real five-zone Mitsubishi coverage on one condenser, but the newer SMART MULTI SM42NLHZ - also five zones, similar capacity - is dramatically more efficient and adds Hyper-Heat.
