But read this first: for two or three rooms, separate single-zone units often beat a multi-zone on efficiency, resilience, and sometimes cost. Buy multi-zone for the reasons it's actually good, not by default. There are two credible paths, and the right one depends on who installs it: Mitsubishi MXZ for a professionally installed, certified, cold-climate-capable system, and MRCOOL DIY for the self-install route.

For a large house in a real winter, the Mitsubishi Electric MXZ SMART MULTI H2i 48k 230V (SM48NLHZ) puts up to eight heads on one condenser with top-tier certified efficiency and H2i heating for the whole house. The Mitsubishi Electric MXZ SMART MULTI H2i 42k 230V (SM42NLHZ) is the mid-size cold-climate pick - and a far better buy than the older, budget Mitsubishi Electric Ported Multi-Zone 40.5k 230V, which is the least efficient MXZ multi-zone and not ENERGY STAR certified.
